THE FAA PART 107 RULES
ARE NOW IN EFFECT
As of August 29, 2016 commercial drone pilots are no longer required to have an FAA Private Pilots License to legally fly a drone. However, rules and regulations do exist and the FAA Part 107 Knowledge Test must be passed prior to operation.
Operating commercially without a Part 107 Remote Pilot's Certificate can result in a fine up to $10,000 and /or jail time. Local Law Enforcement is also stepping up thier monitoring of drone pilots and their compliance with the FAA. The days of flying under the cloak of "hobbyist" will get more difficult as time goes on.
